Open house!

It was great to get a chance to have everyone out to celebrate our learning! Thanks for coming !

Math stations are so much fun!

I am always amazed at the learning that takes place when I provide the foundation and tools and then give the power to the children to teach each other. They are practicing the skills outlined in the curriculum and strengthening their understanding of key concepts but there is so much more taking place! They are cooperating, sharing, teaching each other, exploring the concepts in different ways, and helping each other form new and deeper understandings. The results are amazing. They are so proud to share their learning. I am so proud of them!

We "Elf-ed" ourselves!

Today we had a lot of fun imagining what it would be like to be an elf! We wrote about what we would make and who we would give a present to if we were one of Santas helpers! Then we used the elf yourself app to turn ourselves into dancing Christmas elves and we created paper versions of our elf self for the hall. We could not stop giggling!

Count down to Christmas

We made paper pattern chains to help keep track of how many days until Christmas. We learned sooooo much math from this activity! Counting on, counting back, even and odd, patterns, estimation, measurement, addition, and counting equal sets...multiplication!!! At the end of the activity Grace had an amazing wonder... How many links would our chain have if we joined all 18 groups together?  I think I know what we are going to be doing tomorrow!!!!! These kiddos amaze me with their insight, deep thinking and never ending wonders!!!! I love my job!

The concert was a success

Our concert

For the concert we will be performing two numbers. The first is a song about Manitoba animals. It is based on the story called "Who is in the Woods?" Some children have instrumental parts and others are acting as animals. The animals are showing that they can keep a "snappy beat". We have really been practicing the stepping to the beat of the song.

The other part of our performance is a recital of a poem.-Not just any poem ... A poem we wrote as a class on the first day it snowed!   The kids were so excited that day! We talked about expressing our feelings in a poem and came up with "The Snowy Day". We also have been talking about how good readers read with feeling. So they will read it with first with excitement and feeling just like they felt on that first day the snow fell. Then they are going to read it again and change their voices and expression so it sounds like the way a grown-up might have felt in the day the snow arrived! I think you will enjoy it a lot!!! They think so too!
