Playing with Bears

We had a lot of fun with bears during our math learning time. We counted, sorted, compared, and made patterns. There may have even been a few dancing bears here and there! 

Learning Daily 5

We are learning the routines for our language learning program called Daily 5. There are 5 independent choices that the students can make to practice their reading and writing skills. The first choice we started with is called read to self. Did u know there are three ways to read a book?ask your child to show u what they are

My Family is Important

During our All about Me theme we are talking a lot about why we are important and special. We spent some time last week talking about how our families are one thing that make us who we are-a little bit the same and a little bit different. We discussed who might be in a family and shared some family stories. Then with help from home, and the photos sent in we drew family pictures and made family trees.

On Thursday Sept 29 we will be taking part in our annual Terry Fox run. Everyone is encouraged to send a small donation (loonier or toonie) to the school and we will send it to the Terry Fox Foundation.

Math night!

Stevenson held its first "Math Night"last night. It was a huge success. The evening started off with a pasta dinner where families and teachers were able to visit (and eat) together and then we all headed to the gym. There were a huge variety of games to play-something for everyone and every skill level. We mingled, munched, and challenged our math brains to get some excersize! Many of the games could also be played at home. The message of the evening was math is fun! Playing with math is amazing! 

We are Smart!

We are learning all about who we are. We are exploring the fact that we are all a little bit the same and a little bit different. We all have likes and dislikes. We are all able to learn and help each other learn. We are all smart! We used our understanding of the things we like to decide what kind of "smart" we are right now and how each of us can help someone else learn to be smart in that way too. We can all be teachers.

We are learning to share...our Stories!

The kiddos have been very busy learning to write their stories in personal journals. They are so excited to share their ideas with each other and talk about their their stories.  

Excited about books!

We got to choose books for our book bags today. The children were very excited to get their hands on some awesome books! We talked about choosing good fit books -books that they are interested in, enjoy looking at/reading and books they can learn from. There was a collective "sign of sadness" when it was time to out the books away at the end of the day!

 

Our First Assembly

This morning we attended our first school wide assembly in the gym. It was a Welcome assembly-to welcome back old friend and to welcome new friends to our school. We were introduced to new teachers and we have a round of applause for all of the new students. We sang O Canada together. What a beautiful way to start the year together as a community. Our Class Promise

It was our first day of school and it was wonderful! We came together as a group to talk about what kind of class we wanted to be in and what kind of year we are hoping to have. We wrote a promise together so that we remember if we all try we can make it happen. Then we gave two thumbs up for our wonderful ideas and pledged to try our best.

Hello!!   I am looking forward to meeting you and starting off a wonder-full year together. We will learn a lot from each other this year. We will explore, discover, create, wonder, teach and learn together. Room 14 is a fun safe and exiting place to be! I am so glad you are joining me!
