Excited about books!

We got to choose books for our book bags today. The children were very excited to get their hands on some awesome books! We talked about choosing good fit books -books that they are interested in, enjoy looking at/reading and books they can learn from. There was a collective "sign of sadness" when it was time to out the books away at the end of the day!

 

Our First Assembly

This morning we attended our first school wide assembly in the gym. It was a Welcome assembly-to welcome back old friend and to welcome new friends to our school. We were introduced to new teachers and we have a round of applause for all of the new students. We sang O Canada together. What a beautiful way to start the year together as a community. Our Class Promise

It was our first day of school and it was wonderful! We came together as a group to talk about what kind of class we wanted to be in and what kind of year we are hoping to have. We wrote a promise together so that we remember if we all try we can make it happen. Then we gave two thumbs up for our wonderful ideas and pledged to try our best.

 

Welcome to Room 14.

Hello!!   I am looking forward to meeting you and starting off a wonder-full year together. We will learn a lot from each other this year. We will explore, discover, create, wonder, teach and learn together. Room 14 is a fun safe and exiting place to be! I am so glad you are joining me! 

Mr. Sun

We are learning about the sun.  Today we used our knowledge of 3-D shapes to create castles. As our castles grew we noticed the shadows we created were changing. We talked about shadows and how they are created. We used our iPads to make stop motion videos to document the changing shadow castles.

Cartographers at work!

These kiddos never cease to amaze me! What a bunch of smart talented creative children you have gifted me to spend time with! Today we started a map making project. We have been learning about maps. I planned to use this art activity to assess their map skills and art skills. Well, let me tell you, the children took that to a whole new level and the project evolved from making a simple painting to creating a map that not only demonstrated their art and map skills but also lead to so much more! They decided we should use the map to show all of the fairy tale settings we have been reading about. Then they wanted to include stores and schools ( showing their knowledge of communities) and we stopped to talk about urban and rural settings, as well as natural and man-made environments. We discussed what a community should have in it to meet the needs of its members! (We added a hospital for the big bad wolf, and an airport for the witches to land brooms! Actually a Witch-port) One  student thought we could even join the maps together to create one big map- there's my lesson on neighbourhoods!  The learning and excitement was out of this world! I seriously am teaching myself out of a job! These kids are absolutely amazing! Stay tuned for more on this evolving activity....I can't wait to see what they think of next!!!!
