Dance-a-thon success!!!!

Today was our dance-a-thon fundraiser for the Heart and Stroke Foundation, and boy did we ever put our Heart into it!!! The kiddos raised over $9000.00 (.yes that is not a typo!!!!! ).  They preformed their dance routine for a huge crowd and we even got a standing ovation and were asked to do it twice!!!!
After the kids danced the teachers took the stage to fulfill a promise... If the kids raised more than $1000 the teachers would dance too...it was a very lively rendition of "what does the fox say!"
A heart felt thanks to everyone who took part in this special event.

Mystery reader.....

Today we had a mystery reader. She read us story called Snow Day.  Then we wrote in our non fiction books called "Winter Facts". We wrote and illustrated a page about things we do in winter.

Creating books!

Today we learned how to create our own books using an app called "book creator". We are very excited to use the new iPads!  Showing our smarts through technology is a lot of fun!!!!

Measuring with mittens

Today we used our mittens to measure things around the room. We discussed accuracy and estimation. We also learned how to write 1/2 and what it means. Our mitten math is really measuring up!

Snow day!!!!

After many days of " 50  Below Zero!" We actually got to play outside and what a great "Snow Day!" It was! We used our imaginations, played safe and remembered to be good friends!  And we all came back into class with rosy cheeks and big smiles!!!!!

Symmetry

We learned about symmetry today. We learned it is like a mirror image or if you fold something in half it will look the same. We used the smart board to make some symmetrical patterns and then we made symmetrical mittens.  We noticed that the word symmetry sounded a little like it had the word mitt in it!  But we checked and the vowels were different.... So we practiced saying symmetry a little more carefully! :)

Happy New Year!!!! 2014 in room 14!

We are back!  It is a new year and we have been talking a lot about new beginnings and new expectations. The kiddos have had a great start to the week and have been really making me proud! They seem to have grown up so much since last year!!! LOL!! Seriously though they are really beginning to show more intrinsic motivation and are very eager to do their best! Here are a few pics of the fireworks we made to celebrate the new year. We also wrote resolutions to become better people.  Looking forward to a great year......2014 in room 14!!!!
