Working on words ,

We have a lot of fun working in words in our room.  Today some friends practiced their words with letter dough. 

The senses

We have been learning about our senses. Last week we investigated and labelled the parts of the eye. This week we are learning about our sense of hearing.  Today we discussed how our hearing helps us stay safe and how we need to keep our ears safe.  We talked about what happens if a person is born with hearing loss or if they hurt their hearing. We learned to say "hello, my name is ------" in ASL.  We had fun practising the finger spelling of our names.

 

Hip hip hooray! It's 100 day!

We celebrated a milestone in grade one 100 days of growing our "smarts!" We counted, designed, created, challenged, shared, wrote and wondered! What an amazing day.   Check our twitter feed or Instagram accounts for our independent posts. We are so proud. 

Happy Valentines Day!

We had a wonderful day if friendship and fun today. We made cards. Shared cards. Read stories. Sorted candies counted graphed and compared numbers and...Last but not least we had a wonderful buffet feast of treats! Our tummies are full and so are our hearts!

We have been busy writing in room 14! We learned about editing and publishing and now some of our writing is going to be available for all the children at Stevenson school to enjoy! And there are even more books in the works.... Just wait! 

Investigating our Senses-Sight

Today we learned about the parts of the eye.  We were surprised to find out that the black part if our eye is actually a hole called the pupil and it can get bigger and smaller. It changes size to let in more light.  We tried using a "peep" box to find out if we could see with a little bit if. Light or if we ended a lot of light to see clearly. We guessed we would need a lot if light.... Our prediction was correct!!
